New Architectural Woodwork Standards Now Available
Members of the big three woodworking associations should have received the first edition of the Architectural Woodwork Standards in the mail this past week. (If not, visit www.awinet.org) This new standard has been adopted by the Woodwork Institute (WI), Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI), and Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada (AWMAC) and promises to address the need for uniformity across North America. This joint undertaking has been in the works for a while and will take effect October 1, 2009. Are you ready?
We have begun getting acquainted with the new standard and from a detailer's point of view, I am glad to see an entire section devoted to the submittal process. Although often overlooked or seen as an area where costs can be pared down in order to be competitive during the bidding process, submittal drawings are the starting point that can either make or break the entire project. By providing necessary guidelines for shop drawing information, more shops will be off to a clear, running start. After all, the best time to raise a question is when the product is still in 2D form, not partially assembled on a bench while your cabinetmaker curses the chain of designers and engineers who failed to solve what may be a very basic problem. Thank you Joint Standards Committee Members!
As Outline Studio's principal designer and drafter, I have encouraged a number of fabricators to enhance their submittal drawings with more appropriate detailing. Established in 2003, we pride ourselves on our reputation as the premier supplier of architectural woodwork shop drawings with many of our clients receiving commendations on our submittal documents from the nations top architectural and general contracting firms. We work extremely hard to ensure the finished drawings match each manufacturers' in-house standards. After all, our reputation relies on our clients success.
Outline Studio may be just the solution for your organization, providing your submittal drawings so that you and your managers can focus on more pressings items. As a LEED AP and NAHB Green Verifier, I also offer green consultation and LEED project support.
We would appreciate the opportunity to provide an itemized quote for your next project. Please do not hesitate to contact us or visit our website: www.outlinestudio.com
